The Nagoya basho is one of three grand sumo tournaments held outside Tokyo โ and since 2025 it's run at IG Arena, a modern 17,000-seat venue that replaced the aging Dolphins Arena next to Nagoya Castle. Tickets are easier to get than Tokyo, and seats are better.

The traditional Nagoya basho venue was Dolphins Arena (Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium) next to Nagoya Castle. From 2025, it moved to IG Arena โ modern seats, better sightlines, but a different access route. Old travel guides pre-2025 are out of date.

If you've never been to a sumo tournament, Nagoya is the one to pick. IG Arena is larger than Ryogoku (17,000 vs 10,000 seats), so individual tickets are easier to get.
