Grand Sumo Tokyo January 2027: Tickets Guide
2026-10-25 ยท 9 min read

The January grand sumo tournament is the official start of the sumo year โ 15 days of top-level sumo at Ryogoku Kokugikan. Here's how to actually get tickets.
The Hatsu basho is the Japanese sports calendar's quietly perfect event โ fifteen days of grand sumo in a 10,000-seat arena where the same ritual plays out every afternoon: a bow, salt in the air, 10 seconds of fury, bow again. Tickets are easier to get than you'd expect if you book right.
