Yosakoi Festival (Kochi)

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony

Hiroshima, Hiroshima
Solemn annual ceremony at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park marking the atomic bombing (1945). Bell rings at 8:15 AM. Evening lantern-floating ceremony on the Motoyasu River — 10,000 lanterns for the dead.
Nagaoka Fireworks Festival

Nagaoka, Niigata
One of Japan's top three fireworks festivals. Famous for the massive 'Phoenix' firework that stretches 2km across the sky — a symbol of rebirth after WWII.
