Best Matcha Cafes Kyoto & Uji 2027: 12 Specialty Spots Ranked
2026-10-25 ยท 9 min read
Uji is Japan's matcha capital, Kyoto is the showroom. These are the 12 matcha cafes worth the queue in 2027 ??including which ones to skip.
Uji ??15 minutes south of Kyoto ??grows some of Japan's best matcha, and the clustering of 1800s-era tea houses around Byodoin makes it the single-best half-day for a matcha pilgrimage. Kyoto itself is the showroom: Ippodo (established 1717), Marukyu Koyamaen, and the new wave at Nakamura Tokichi and Tsujiri. This 2027 guide ranks the 12 that are actually worth the queue.
๐กLast content review: October 2026
Prices confirmed October 2026 from each cafe's official site. Queue times from Google Popular Times + on-site visits during both weekday and weekend windows.
