Keisei Skyliner (recommended for most)

The Keisei Skyliner is a dedicated express train from both Narita terminals (T1 + T2/3) direct to Nippori (36 min) and Ueno (41 min). It's the fastest airport transport by any measure. Trains run every 20-40 minutes from 7:30 AM to 22:00. Tickets are ¥2,570 one-way; foreign-tourist round-trip discount tickets (¥4,880 for round + Tokyo^PR metro 24-72hr pass) sell at Keisei counters and Klook — actually a great deal if you're doing multiple metro rides.

From Nippori or Ueno you connect to JR Yamanote Line (¥170) which loops to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Tokyo^PR Station — total journey time to any of those in 55-70 minutes from arrival at Narita.

JR Narita Express (best if you have a JR Pass)

The N'EX is comfy — reserved seating, luggage racks, WiFi, direct to Tokyo Station, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, or Yokohama. Costs ¥3,070 one-way regular, but if you have a JR Pass^PR, it's included and effectively free. Trip time to Tokyo Station: 53 min; Shinjuku: 79 min; Shibuya: 76 min.

Foreign tourists can also buy a special N'EX round-trip ticket^PR (¥5,000) valid for 14 days — cheaper than 2× regular one-way if you're leaving from Narita.

Airport Limousine Bus (best with hotel-drop)

Limousine Bus is comfortable, has under-bus storage for big luggage, and stops directly at major Tokyo^PR hotels — Hilton, Grand Hyatt, Park Hyatt, Cerulean, and 50+ others. Great for families and travelers with heavy suitcases who want to skip train transfers. Cost ¥3,600 to central Tokyo; ¥4,000-4,500 to farther districts like Odaiba or Roppongi.

Trade-off: slower than Skyliner or N'EX (80-120 min depending on traffic), and Tokyo^PR traffic in evening rush can add 30+ minutes. Not recommended if you land 4-7 PM and want to reach anywhere fast.

Keisei Access Express (cheapest legal option)

The Keisei Access Express is the same physical trains as Skyliner runs on, but stops at every station and doesn't require the ¥1,230 express supplement — just ¥1,340 to Nippori/Ueno. Takes about 60 min vs Skyliner's 41 min.

This is the ¥1,000+ savings option for budget travelers. Downside: seats aren't reserved (grab any), and the train fills at intermediate stations. If you land with a big suitcase during evening rush, standing 60 min is unfun. Off-peak (before 8 AM or after 8 PM), it's genuinely fine.

Taxi (only if...)

Narita to Tokyo^PR by taxi runs ¥18,000-25,000 depending on time and destination. Only makes sense in 2 cases: (1) 4+ people splitting the cost, or (2) you land after midnight when trains stop. Otherwise it's the worst-value option — 5-10x the train cost for the same journey time.
