About this festival
Sumiyoshi Taisha in Osaka holds its Setsubun festival on Setsubun, the day before the start of spring, to pray for the removal of misfortune and the arrival of good fortune. At the Kamiyakata hall, members of the Ogasawara school of archery, mounted archery and etiquette perform the Tsuina Hosha-shiki, in which an archer shoots at a large target shaped like a demon.
