About this festival
Tamatori-sai, also known as Tamaseseri, is held at Hakozaki Shrine every January 3. After a purification ceremony at 13:00, participants wearing only loincloths splash through water and fight over a wooden ball. If the land side lifts the ball the harvest is expected to be good, and if the beach side does the catch is expected to be good.
