About this festival
Hagoita-ichi is held at Sensoji every December 17 to 19, when dozens of stalls selling decorated hagoita battledores line the temple grounds. It grew out of Edo's year-end market (toshi-no-ichi) around the 18th, the last Kannon fair day of the year, and hagoita became its main item in the late Edo period.
