Why Oku-Nikko
Most day-trippers stop at Toshogu shrine and head back to Tokyo. The real surprise is a 30-km bus ride uphill: Lake Chuzenji at 1,269 m, Kegon Falls thundering down the lake's outlet, Senjogahara's wide marsh with a wooden boardwalk and clear mountain views, and Yumoto Onsen's milky sulphur baths at the end of the line.
