Niseko Ski 2027: Complete Guide to Japan's Powder Capital
💡TL;DR⏱ 3 min read

Niseko United's four interconnected Hokkaido resorts receive 15m of dry powder a year. Here's the 2026-27 season plan — opening dates, Niseko All Mountain Pass, and the Hirafu vs Annupuri hotel decision.

Niseko is why Australian ski bums have Hokkaido on their phone wallpaper. Fifteen metres of dry Siberian powder a season, four interconnected resorts under one Niseko United lift pass, backcountry gates that are among the most permissive in Japan, and Mt. Yotei — a Fuji-shaped volcano — on every chairlift photo. The 2026-27 season opens 28 November 2026 and runs to 5 May 2027.

💡Last content review: October 2026

2026-27 season dates confirmed from the official Grand Hirafu operations calendar: 28 November 2026 – 5 May 2027 (tentative). Night skiing 12 December 2026 – 22 March 2027. Lift pass prices subject to change.

⚡⏰ Peak-season rooms go first

Golden Week, Obon, New Year and the sakura and autumn-leaf peaks fill up fast. Once your dates are set, check availability now. Every week you wait, there are fewer rooms to choose from.

The reason Niseko wins over Hakuba for most first-timers: the snow is dry (Hokkaido sits in a Siberian cold-air corridor), the four resorts share one lift pass with free inter-resort shuttles, and Hirafu village has more English than most of mainland Japan combined.

Where to stay

Hirafu is the obvious base: ski-in / ski-out options from AYA Niseko and Ki Niseko, mid-range at Hotel Niseko Alpen, and backpacker digs on Hirafu-zaka. Book by September — peak weeks (26 Dec – 10 Jan, Chinese New Year) sell out 8 months out.
