Kobe Luminarie is Japan's most meaningful illumination — an annual memorial to the 6,434 people who died in the 1995 Great Hanshin Earthquake. 30 years running in 2026.

The 200m illumination corridor

The main event is walking through a 200m arched corridor of 200,000 LED lights arranged in ornate Italian-cathedral-inspired patterns. Different design annually — 2026 marks the 30th anniversary so expect commemorative theme. Walk end-to-end takes 15-20 min. At the end: the 'Piazza' cathedral square with the main illumination.
