October 22 is a double-event day. Jidai Matsuri runs 12:00-15:30 in central Kyoto. The Kurama Fire Festival (Kurama no Hi Matsuri) runs 18:00-22:00 at Yuki Shrine in the mountain village of Kurama, 30 min by Eizan Dentetsu from Demachiyanagi. Many Kyoto visitors do both. Last train from Kurama can be jammed; verify return schedule at Demachiyanagi before heading out, and budget 60-90 min for crowd dispersal.
