2026-10-25 ยท Baca 8 menit

A heart-shaped Pacific island 358 km south of Tokyo, inside a double caldera, with its own geothermal sauna and about 170 permanent residents.
Aogashima is 9 kmยฒ of Pacific caldera, ~170 residents, no bridges, no tunnels โ only a weather-dependent helicopter from Hachijojima and an infamous 3-hour ferry.

Why Aogashima
Aogashima is the most remote inhabited place in Tokyo prefecture and one of the strangest places in Japan: a volcano inside a volcano, where the inner cone rises inside the outer caldera's bowl, both of them green with tree ferns and pines. The village sits on the north rim; the inner caldera holds a geothermal sauna that cooks eggs in jet-steam vents. Fewer than 200 permanent residents live here, and most visitors stay in one of the handful of minshuku. Expect zero convenience stores, two restaurants, no ATMs that take foreign cards, and spectacular night skies.
